The same problem with Maltese chosen song for Eurovision Song Contest 2103 seems to be in Iceland where the Icelandic song for Eurovision 2013, “Eg a lif” sang by Eypor has very similar chorus with the song “I am cow” from the candian band The Arrogant Worms. In this case the simiularity is much more observable as you can listen below:

For a song to be plagiarism it’s necesary to have at least 7 consecutive notes in the same tonality with another song. In the case of Malta we have 2 maximum 3 similar notes. In the Icelandic case it seems that 4 notes are similar and repetitive many times. Still we try to listen carefully but it would be wise for any professional to judge officially on this. We only estimate what we listen to.
